Constructed on the site of a former birthing hospital/school, this forward-thinking project is a welcome sight for the public driving through downtown Indiana. This was one of the more fun projects that Crane Masonry has completed because of the challenges of working with big, old hand-cut stones and curves in the concrete design. The first image shows the pile of stones intentionally saved from the foundation of the former structure to reuse in the hardscape portion of the new project. Crane Masonry was hired to build a retaining wall and stairs using these stones so that the public would have a reminder of the former hospital since there are Indiana citizens born there who did not want to see it go. Additional work included placing and finishing the concrete and installing the clay pavers inset in the main circle. The project design was a collaborative effort between a local architectural firm, the bank, and Crane Masonry.
